Epic Win: Planters Cheez Balls

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by V Leong

We’ve never had these before, but the high votes Planters Cheez Balls received dictates that we post them as an Epic Win. After looking around for some appropriate content to include with the post, this guy convinced us we needed to go buy some Cheez Balls. His willingness to post this video just to express his love for Cheez Balls has inspired us.

» 42 Blasts From The Past

  1. Brandon_ha says:

    Sounds nasty.

  2. Pennyforth says:

Oh GOD, but I miss Planter’s Cheez Balls. They had this unique, extra-tangy cheese flavor that Cheetos just can’t match. Sadly, like Chef Boyardee Chicken Ravioli and Little Debbie Coconut Bars, they were discontinued for mass distribution….though I’ve heard rumors that snack-size bags are making a limited comeback at Blockbuster Video stores.

    • tigr says:

I loved these WAY too much… My brothers and I would go through an entire can during a movie, easily!

Toward the end of their long run, they came out with a Reduced Fat version, which was really good… (less greasy)

Blockbusters has indeed started carrying these (in a similar container) but they’re smaller and definitely don’t taste the same… But that could be because my palate has changed…

      *sigh*

  3. puppatoons says:

I could put away a can of these in a heartbeat. Mmm, they were yummy. And they didn’t leave quite the mess on your fingers that Cheetos do.

  4. lelah says:

I think the first time I ate Cheez Balls was when I was about 5, and if I remember correctly, I ate the whole can. At 5! My Grandma was not happy.

  5. Dan says:

These should have been labeled surprisingly addictive. Once they were purchased they never lasted long. Sometimes they didn’t even make it to the car.

  6. eTX says:

These were yummy! They kind of cut up my little kid gums, but man! They were delicious!

  7. Skyfire says:

Oh god, the heavenly smell that wafted out as you opened the can! YUM! If someone put up old, unopened cans on eBay I’d snap them up in a heartbeat.

  8. RankMyTyping says:

What is it about the ball form that makes it more tastey than the curl

  9. Spocktober says:

My wife and I are on a quest to find a suitable replacement for Planters Cheez Balls. We’ve been on this quest for four years. Nothing comes close.

  10. WinBingo says:

today is not the same flavor…damn.

    • Juniper Jupiter says:

Because today we’re no longer allowed trans fats! And without the delicious, decadent trans fats, NOTHING tastes good!

      Fook the FDA! :P

(I’m probably pulling that little tidbit out of my butt, but I still think it’s true! :D )

  11. BRMBug says:

I’ve found generic ones at Dollar Tree that taste similar.

  12. Patrick says:

sunofabitch! those were my FAVORITE! cant find them anywhere anymore. even if i did i would kill the can in one afternoon and then have to go on the hunt again.

  13. Anonymous says:

They have them at a store near my house! I almost flipped out. I bought 4 of them and ate all of them in one day :)

    Those are goddamn delicious.

  14. Raymond says:

    what store!?!

  15. Leah says:

My mom bought a big jug of generic white cheese balls from Cost Plus. They were not as good & made my stomach hurt.

  16. Jena says:

I miss those! I used to eat them all the time. :[[

  17. stanggirl70 says:

Do they make these anymore? I wish they did. I’ve tried to find them with no luck. They were so much better than Cheetos!

  18. Rhi says:

They were the best, the nommiest things ever made. But the best was when the cat was attracted to them, pawed one out of the can and proceeded to chomp on it. It got stuck between her front fangie teef. My mother and I nearly collapsed off the couch as she sat there on the floor trying to shake it out. The look she gave us as she left the room once she cleared the puff as that of “you will die!”

  19. Ghostmoon says:

I loved these! I used to drop them in my tomato soup instead of crackers.

  20. studenttechdirector says:

We used to have epic cheez ball fights in the drama room at highschool…oh how I miss them.

  21. Hopeless Romance says:

I used to eat those all the time when I was little! Man, they were good! I miss them so much now.

  22. Sunshiner says:

Mmmm…these were super-delicious. I remember my great-grandparents always had these when I went to stay with them. Oh man, those things were good. I recently got a big jug of them from Sam’s, but they weren’t Planters. They were still good, though. And they made your gums go raw if you ate too many of them, just like the original. :D

  23. Nobody says:

I found a can of “Cheez Curls” (the stick-like variety of these) at a local Blockbuster. The can disappeared quickly – pretty much the same thing they used to be.

  24. lizlargent says:

this was my favorite snack ever! my church used to get HUGE tubs of them for kid snacks. man, now i am craving them… dern. it would be worth the sore tongue if i could find some now…

  25. Jay says:

When my brother and I were little, we used to have a slide in our house. (Yes, in our house. Our parents were crazy and didn’t give a crap. xD) One would sit at the top, another at the bottom, and the top person would slide the cheese ball down the slide, while the bottom person ate them. Needless to say, I spent most of my time at the bottom end. xD

  26. Anniee451 says:

Ah, Rain Man’s favorite toothpick snacks. 15 cheese balls to go!

  27. MB says:

Do I have to be the first to admit that I used to smell my fingers for hours after eating these heavenly treats? And yes, they cut up my gums too…but well worth it!

    • tigr says:

I would use the lid sometimes to crunch them up and then lick the crumbs up like a crack-addict…

Maybe *thats* what used to be in them…?

      • tigr says:

        “that’s” …oops

Oh, and here’s an old petition that is still going (10k signatures!)

  28. musicalchef says:

    AAAaaggggggghhhhhh!! Bring them back!

There was a generic Kroger brand that wasn’t too bad. But I haven’t even been able to find that in awhile.

  29. kristin says:

    HOLY CRAP.
When I was real little I LOVED cheese balls but they made me sick to my stomach! So naturally, I ate a ton of them and went running around the playground. Got a little dizzy and fell down in some rocks, ended up getting 8 stitches. Still have the scar and have not had a cheese ball since.

  30. stephanie says:

i found this website where you can buy planters cheez balls. the only thing is-you can only get it in a gift basket. starting around 59 bucks. the website is: filgifts.com. and in the search engine type in cheez balls and it will give u a list of baskets that has it in there…

  31. kiddude7 says:

    Eww! nasty

  32. LinzyLou says:

OMG, I miss these! I had perpetually had orange fingers whenever I’d stay weekends with my grandparents. There was always 2 cans in the pantry waiting for me when I got there- one per day. The Planters Cheez curls were good too.

  33. beach buddy says:

Please somebody tell me where i can get some planters cheese/ chili balls …Im pregnant and craving them……HELP

  34. Andy says:

How unlikely is this but…I’ve discovered the “Great Value” brand Cheddar Cheez Crunch to be just about the closest I’ve found to those dearly departed Cheez Curls, which were my favorite. At least, it’s close enough that I’m developing a fairly alarming addiction to them, so that’s got to be a good sign right!
