Epic Win: Jeep Comanche

win pics, jeep comanche

Submitted by parker lewis can’t lose, offered in both rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive models.

The Jeep Comanche was produced for 6 years, from 1986 – 1992. Basically, it’s the Cherokee…but with, you know, a bed. Can’t say that I see these on the road all that often. Or maybe I see them all the time, except only from the front, therefore mistaking them for Cherokees.

» 11 Blasts From The Past

  1. Miroku says:

I got a story about one of those. It involves a guy who was burnt out on acid, his rich parents selling his charger, and buying him one of these, then the son committing suicide in it.

That then led to an urban legend in my old neighborhood.

  2. Of10rot10 says:

No thank you! Jeep’s idea of cost cutting and still staying in the pick-up business. Give me the J-10′s and 20′s it replaced any day! Full sized truck, smart styling, drove like a dream, stopped on a dime and would go any damn place you wanted them to go.

  3. BRMBug says:

A neighbor of mine had one of these for like 14 years. It refused to die!

  4. FunBobby says:

I drove one for 8 years. Cool little truck, never got stuck in the sugar sand like the big Chevy’s and Fords. I tried to get a J-10 but it was sold by the time I had enough money.

  5. Jeff says:

I had a 1990 Eliminator edition 4wd. That thing would go anywhere, did a lot of winter off-roading in Buffalo, NY through 3-4 feet of untouched snow and I rarely even had to put it in 4wd. The only reason I had to sell it is I got laid off about the time gas prices went through the roof and it left me a choice of the Comanche or my 36mpg Saturn.

  6. Nanako says:

Haha… my brother has one of these guys. Has lasted through everything you’d expect a 22 year old guy to put his truck though.

  7. Kevin says:

I had a 1988 one, had the 4.o L6 in it, plenty of power, too light for its own good though, we used it for pulling trees out of our pond after a tropical storm rolled through our area, threw some weight in the back, dropped it into 4 low, pulled them up as well as any full size 4×4 i have ever owned. Gas guzzler for its size though.

  8. Doug says:

Have an 87 short box 4×2 4cyl 4speed, no power nothing, 316,000 miles on it, have rebuilt the engine, but trans and rear differential still stock. No rust. Great truck! They are getting rarer and rarer. I’m keeping mine!

  9. Tim says:

One of my buddies had one of these. It could go up and over just about anything, and when he got the 4wd fixed it was even better. It was really funny seeing him pull a supped up ford with massive tires and a lift kit through a pit. He recently bought a much newer Cherokee, and it sounds exatcly the same, and looks the same inside and out, except for the back and not being painted maroon by his father. No more stolen soda machines in the back though, lol

  10. Tom says:

as a kid I had a matchbox comanche. it was my favorite. I’d love to have it back :(

  11. Ron says:

Great little truck, just recently had an 88′. Got terrible gas milage but would climb a tree! Fun little truck!
