Epic Win: Wildlife Fact File

May. 24, 2010

Submitted by Ryan, who can be found grazing at his local watering hole

these were basically binders with various pages about different animals divided up into categories (mammal, amphibian, etc). You would get these pages in the mail, and it gave info about the animal, where it lives, how it behaves, etc.

Ah, the majestic giraffe. This is what we had to turn to before Planet Earth.

May. 7, 2010

Submitted by Sara H, the queen of two-for-one school supplies

But is it any match for the dual functionality of the squiggle pen?

Apr. 26, 2010

Submitted by Albuquerque Jones, who bends over backwards to write

I can just see the corporate wheels spinning when creating this pencil.

Exec: What we need is a school supply that feels like a toy. Wow me. ‘

Employee: I’m thinking a pencil that bends

Exec: Yes! This is why they pay me the big bucks.

Epic Win: Squiggle Writer Pen

Apr. 23, 2010

Submitted by Juju who has excellent cursive

Marketed to help you learn fine motor control, the Squiggle Writer pen often made whatever you wrote look like you had palsy. When the batteries ran low, the weight in the top revolved slowly causing it to scatter wildly over the page and make writing impossible.

Ed note: Best. Comments. Ever.

Epic Win: Lisa Frank Designs

Nov. 19, 2009

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by K Kovach,

I remember most school supplies — namely folders — featured pencils and books and other school supplies on them. The Lisa Frank brand wanted to showcase a more accurate depiction of school: Tripping on hallucinogens. That rainbow-colored unicorn got me through the 6th grade, man!
