Laserdiscs

once upon a win

Submitted by K Wilson

From Wikipedia:

The Laserdisc (LD) is an obsolete home video disc format, and was the first commercial optical disc storage medium. Initially marketed as Discovision in 1978, the technology was licensed and sold as Reflective Optical Videodisc, Laser Videodisc, Laservision, Disco-Vision, DiscoVision, and MCA DiscoVision until Pioneer Electronics purchased the majority stake in the format and marketed LaserDisc in the mid to late 1980s.

While technologically superior to the then rival VHS and Betamax systems, the laserdisc never obtained more than a niche market with videophiles in America. In Japan, the format was better supported and thus more prevalent. In Europe, it remained largely an obscure format. The technology and concepts provided with the Laserdisc would become the forerunner to Compact Discs and DVDs.

Swans Crossing

once upon a win

Submitted by Kathryn W

From Wikipedia:

Swans Crossing is a short-lived American syndicated teen drama series that aired for thirteen weeks from June 29 to September 25, 1992. That series chronicled the lives of a group of wealthy teenagers living in the seaside town of Swans Crossing. Sydney Rutledge (Sarah Michelle Gellar) was the daughter of the mayor, Margaret Rutledge. They lived right next door to the mayor’s political rival, Grant Booth, and his family. Sydney had a close but secret relationship with Garrett Booth (Shane McDermott), Grant Booth’s son; but the parents found out and built a literal wall between them and their houses. The couple broke up but still stayed in the same social groups, generating a bitter struggle between them as the season progressed.

Other major characters in Swans Crossing were J.T. Adams (Tom Carroll) and Neil Atwater (Eddie Robinson), best friends and scientific geniuses; Bobby “Saja” De Castro (Alex Tanaka); Saja’s sister Sophia Eva McCormick Decastro (Mira Sorvino), Sandy Swan (Kristen Mahon) and Owen Fowler (Evan Ferrante), the talented musicians; Jimmy Clayton (Devin Doherty) and Callie Walker (Stacey Moseley), the auto mechanics; Glory Booth (Carisa Dahlbo), Garrett’s younger sister and J.T.’s love interest; Nancy Robbins (Barbera), Sydney’s best friend; and Mila Rosnovsky (Brittany Daniel), Garrett’s new girlfriend and the daughter of a countess.

Various incredible intrigues, involving spies, first loves, phony birth certificates, and the preservation of endangered species, fueled the plots which were hilariously funny at times and powerfully dramatic at others. One major storyline that never got resolved was Garrett blackmailing Sydney with the fact that he could prove she was swapped at birth with Sandy Swan, after making peace with Callie and Jimmy, they offered to find the evidence and find out if it was true.

Slim Goodbody

Submitted by Kale Kale

From Wikipedia:

Slim Goodbody (“the Superhero of Health”) is a fictional character created and performed by John Burstein. Slim is a human adult who wears a flesh-colored unitard with various tissues, organs and organ systems painted on the front in biologically-accurate locations and sizes. Burstein created the character in 1975. At that time, Burstein was working at The Floating Hospital in New York City. He began writing songs and skits to entertain the children there and to teach them about anatomy and the workings of the human body. He eventually added an organ-painted body suit to the design, dubbing his alter-ego “Slim Goodbody”.

The Bloodhound Gang

Submitted by Mountain Girl

From Wikipedia:

The Bloodhound Gang got its name from Mr. James Bloodhound (conceivably a private detective) who was perpetually absent from his office, presumably dealing with “adult” cases. Whenever a youth of the Bloodhound Gang would answer the phone, they would say, “Bloodhound Detective Agency, wherever there’s trouble we’re there on the double! Mr. Bloodhound isn’t here!” and accept cases suited to their age, such as exposing frauds.

A Night at the Roxbury

once upon a win

Submitted by Engleshen

From Wikipedia:

A Night at the Roxbury is a 1998 comedy film based on a recurring skit on television’s long-running Saturday Night Live called The Roxbury Guys. Saturday Night Live regulars Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, and Molly Shannon star.

The film sees Kattan and Ferrell reprise their SNL characters, dense nightclubbing brothers Doug and Steve Butabi. In the original sketches, Doug and Steve were often joined by that night’s guest, credited as ‘barhop’ (including turns by Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, Martin Short, Alec Baldwin, Jack Nicholson, and Sylvester Stallone parodying his familiar Rocky Balboa role), but the barhop role was dropped during production of the film.

Other roles include Jennifer Coolidge as a policewoman, Chazz Palminteri’s uncredited role as gregarious night club impresario Mr. Benny Zadir, and Colin Quinn as his bodyguard. Ex-SNLer Mark McKinney has a cameo as a priest officiating a wedding.
